About this Classroom Training

Data centre growth will catalyst a rise in demand for power because data centres may be in clusters, requiring the strengthening of the local energy network. As data centres become increasingly central to our digital infrastructure and they are heavy users of power, understanding their operational intricacies and their impact on the power grid is crucial for ensuring reliability and efficiency.

This 3-day course focuses on the fundamentals of large-load facilities, with a specialised emphasis on data centres. Participants will delve into the complexities of managing these facilities, exploring various operational modes such as grid-connected and islanded operations. The course will address critical challenges faced by data centres that can significantly affect performance and reliability. In addition to the essential concepts, participants will engage with advanced topics in the context of large data centres and their interactions with the power grid. Furthermore, participants will be exposed to the role of series compensated lines in enhancing grid performance and discuss essential topics required to ensure system reliability and stability.

A significant focus will be placed on the application of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices, which are instrumental in improving grid performance and mitigating adverse effects associated with high-load facilities. In addition, insights into Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) will be provided, highlighting the importance of N+1 redundancy configurations to enhance reliability in data centres operations. By the end of this course, participants will have gained a well-rounded understanding on how to effectively manage and optimise large load facilities, particularly data centres, to ensure robust and stable power grid performance.

This course will be delivered face-to-face over 3-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 19.5 hours in total, 19.5 CPD points.
