About this Micro Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)
API Standard 53 was introduced in 2016 as a fundamental response to the Macondo disaster. It evolved from API Recommended Practice 53 and introduced mandatory requirements for the installation and testing of blowout prevention equipment systems on land and marine drilling rigs (barge, platform, bottom-supported, and floating). A subsequent revision occurred in 2018. This Micro VILT examines the principal changes that were made when migrating from a Recommended Practice to a Standard and their impact on Rig well control equipment. It also examines changes made in 2018 and how Standard 53 works alongside other Standards and Specifications for Well Control Equipment.
