About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) 

This Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) course will provide an introduction into marine fuel oil, its uses, specifications & components. In addition, numerous best practices on blending product, guidelines to optimize product quality, assure stability and minimize give-away are covered. Finally, all aspects of the IMO change in bunker fuel’s 0.5% sulphur limit are addressed.

This VILT course is intended for technical staff, supervisors and managers in refining, marketing, trading, economic planning and laboratories who need better technical understanding of bunker fuel and bunker fuel blending. It is also highly suitable for Fuel oil traders as well as Bunker operators.

The VILT course will be delivered online in 5 half-day sessions comprising 4 hours per day, with 2 x 10 minutes break per day, including time for lectures, discussion, quizzes and short classroom exercises.

Your expert course leader  is a passionate leader, researcher and world-class expert with more than 35 years’ international experience in Residue Hydroconversion, Delayed Coking, Crude Oil, Heavy Fuel Product Qualities and Emerging Technologies in the Heavy Oil field.

He held a variety of technology and managing positions in Shell and was over many years on the forefront of Shell’s innovation strategy of the “bottom-of-the-barrel” commercial products and upgrading technologies. During his career, he has worked on crude feedstock evaluations for Carbon Black production.

His passion is dealing with challenging technical problems and opportunities to deliver value through practical solutions. He has a hands-on mentality, is flexible and builds very strong relationship with clients. During his career he enjoyed to coach many engineers and was giving countless in-house and external courses on Fuel Oil, Crude Oil and general refinery product quality at the Shell Open University and many client locations. He has hands-on experience in service delivery and enjoys technology support to commercial clients.

He authored and co-authored some 30 publications and presentations at international conferences and has twelve patents in his name. He understands how to deliver outstanding services in sometimes difficult cultural and commercial situations. He worked for clients around the world.

Besides the world of oil and gas, he is a licensed long-distance running trainer who loves to coach his 18 trainers in the local running team. He still enjoys running himself, and also engages in various other outdoor activities.
