About this Training Course

This 2-day training course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding on LNG marine terminal and the coordination of vessels with terminals. The course content will be adapted to suit the requirements of individual clients and can be designed to focus on either a loading or discharge terminal, though both can be included if required. This training course is intended to provide a detailed outlook on the design of LNG Carriers that may be encountered and cargo related operations that may be conducted at an LNG loading or discharging terminal.

After the completion of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the various designs of LNG Carrier, including details of the containment and propulsion system options and the resulting operational requirements
  • Examine the underlying principles of the operations that need to be conducted
  • Comprehend the design and operation of the equipment required in the undertaking of those operations
  • Review details of the safety systems that are implemented throughout
  • Grasp the undertaking of cargo operations that may be conducted alongside an LNG Terminal

This training course is intended for those who may have a marine background, but who do not have much, if any experience of LNG vessels, and who will be taking up the role of coordinator between the vessel and terminal. The course will also be applicable to anybody who wishes to have a better understanding of LNG vessels and the operations they may conduct at an LNG loading or discharge terminal.  This course will greatly benefit but not limited to:

The training course is presented in an interactive workshop format that allows for discussion. The course will be delivered through analysis of case studies and running examples of problems.

Course Duration: 2 days in total (14 hours)

The training instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process. This method ensures that all participants gain a complete understanding of all the topics covered.  Interaction verbally will be necessary to achieve the best learning outcome from the materials.

Your expert course leader has been involved with the Maritime and Shipping industry for over 36 years where his foundation was built with Shell from Cadetship to Master. Within 23 years at sea, he spent twenty on Crude Oil, Product Tankers, Bulk carrier and numerous LNG Carriers, both Moss and Membrane. He was deeply engaged on trade in the Far East, Australia and Japan when he became Master on LNG carriers. He has completed numerous STS transfers for Crude Oil on VLCCs in the Gulf of Mexico and he performed weekly STS operations from 30,000 tons Product Carriers to small coasters in the Gulf of Thailand. He is a Class 1 Master Mariner and is associated with SIIRSM, AFNI, & AFRIN.

More recently he has carried out training and attended a number of LNG STS operations for Ship Management Companies in South America. Aside from Shell, he has also worked for 12 years in shore side roles for global maritime companies such as K Line Shipping UK Limited, MOL LNG Transport Europe Ltd and BG Global LNG Shipping, where he has held HSSE Manager and operations roles. He also has experience in accident and incident investigation and expert witness roles in numerous cases while working for marine consultancies, including collisions, groundings, unsafe ports, cargo loss and damage claims.
