About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) 

This Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) will be delivered online in 5 half-day sessions over five consecutive days. The VILT course is structured primarily for the oil & gas industry, offshore marine, civil and heavy engineering and water and energy utilities. It is applicable to those persons who manage or lead the procurement processes & manage tender stakeholder committees associated with preparing and issuing requests for quotes, tenders or proposals and who evaluate and assess bid documentation as part of a tender panel, and those who negotiate tender terms with prospective contractors.

By attending this VILT course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the governance required in the tendering process and develop the skills necessary to prepare and issue tender documents, and evaluate and negotiate tenders more effectively.
  • Understand tender terminology, the surrounding potential legal issues in tendering, the various tendering options available and the key documents that support the tender process and the engagement of necessary stakeholders.
  • Manage the entire tender process through a ‘risk managed’ approach whilst utilising a ‘cross functional’ committee of experts/stakeholders throughout the tender ‘source to award’ process.

This VILT course is applicable for professionals in both the public and private sector including procurement, contracts, finance, facilities, project managers, contract supervisors and administrators, consulting engineers, architects, auditors, in-house legal-council or other persons who are either directly responsible for preparing tender documentation, or involved as advisers or stakeholders in tender evaluation panels.

The VILT course would also benefit head contractors, subcontractors and suppliers who prepare and submit tenders, proposals and quotes to better understand client requirements and constraints in respect of receiving, evaluating and negotiating tenders and awarding contracts.

This VILT course will be delivered online in 5 half-day sessions comprising 4 hours per day, with 2 breaks of 10 minutes per day. Course Duration: 5 half-day sessions, 4 hours per session (20 hours in total).

Your expert course leader is a Principal of an Australian contract and tender firm and a Chartered Professional Engineer and Commercial Manager with 45 years of industry experience. He is a Certified Local Government Engineer with both civil engineering design and construction supervision experience. He is an experienced Contract Administrator and Project Manager, with direct experience in the administration of most contract types over a range of different industry groups.

His skill areas encompass dispute resolution, providing contractual advice, contractual and security of payment claims preparation, assessment and management, contract reviews and audits commercial negotiations, preparation of tender and contract documents, tender and probity advice, facilitation of partnering, risk, opportunity and value management workshops, risk assessment and loss control, and workplace training.

He is an active international (ICC) and domestic commercial arbitrator for construction industry and other technical-related matters. He is a Grade 1 Arbitrator and an Accredited Mediator with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, and a registered Arbitrator with Engineers Australia and the Australian Commercial Disputes Centre. He is an Approved Mediator for the Queensland District and Supreme Courts and the Commercial & Consumer Tribunal, and is also a nominated Adjudicator and Expert in Queensland Main Roads Department contracts and a panel arbitrator and mediator for the Queensland Government’s Energy Consumer Protection Office.

He is a past National Councilor of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA), and a past Chairman of the Queensland Chapter of this Institute. He is also a past Chairman of the Engineering Contracts and Dispute Resolution Committee of the Queensland Division of Engineers Australia. He also presents and facilitates training courses for CCI and holds Certificate IV and Diploma level qualifications in workplace training.

He also lectures on contract administration and construction law and practice-related subjects, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, at two Australian Universities.
