About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)

Governments, regulators, and energy companies are pursuing CO2 storage technologies to meet their net-zero carbon commitments as well as targets set by the international Paris Agreement on climate change. For successfully executing Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) projects, various technical, operational, economic and environmental risks and associated stakeholders need to be managed.

In this 4 half-day Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) course, the methods for managing risk in CCS projects are addressed with a focus on CO2 injection and storage. The VILT course will also demonstrate how to assess the well and reservoir integrity of a potential CO2 storage subsurface system. The phase behaviour during injection and well operations and what the consequences are for material selection will be examined. The potential leak paths will be discussed such as reservoir seals, leakage along faults and aspects of new well design for CO2 injection. In the course, the design of a monitoring programme MMV) will also be discussed, including well design requirements for an MMV. The course will be supported by various case studies.

Course Content at a Glance:

  1. CCS projects in an international context
  2. Design of new CO2 injection wells
  3. Assessment of existing well integrity
  4. Containment assessment
  5. Measurement, monitoring & verification

The course was very insightful especially with having zero background knowledge of CCS. Many topics from CCS are similar to those in the petroleum industry therefore one can apply similar management schemes

    Geologist, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited

I found this CCS course to be an excellent introduction to this emerging industry, providing both a high level overview and where necessary, delving into detail to explain more intricate aspects of the process. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and happy to engage in open discussions. This course is a great place to start for anyone interested in CCS

Senior Advisor (Geologist), Carbon X Australia

Both of the trainers are knowledgeable. This subject related to subsurface work/aspect, yet they did their best and manage to make it easy to understand.

    Staff Drilling Engineer, PTTEP

Both instructors were very approachable and knowledgeable

    Senior well engineer, PTTEP

Very informative course content and good knowledge on CCS gained from the class.

    Drilling Superintendent, PTTEP
