About this training

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the technical and commercial aspects of field development planning in the oil and gas industry. This course considers the technical and commercial influences on Field Development Planning within the global oil and gas industry. It also considers the need for understanding field development choice, resource size, facility choice and cost. The course covers the full field development workflow from exploration and appraisal through concept selection, facilities design, project execution, and field management. Through lectures, exercises, and case studies, participants will gain key skills needed to contribute to interdisciplinary field development planning teams and projects.

The course includes topics such as geological fundamentals, reservoir modelling, production forecasting, facilities design, project management, decision analysis under uncertainty, and project economics. Participants will develop a holistic understanding of how geological factors, reservoir characteristics, production mechanisms, costs, risks, and oil/gas prices integrate to determine optimal development approaches for oil and gas fields. Real-world exercises and case studies from a range of settings including onshore, offshore, and deepwater provide hands-on practice. Upon completing the course, participants will have the confidence and capabilities to play an active role in field development planning processes and decisions.
