Oil and Gas Technical training > Micro Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) - Petroleum Geology for Non-geoscientists - The Components for a Working Petroleum System

About this Micro Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)

All roles in the oil and gas industry are directed at finding hydrocarbons of sufficient quantity and quality to make an economic field, without risk to people or finances. That role may be involved with regulation, health and safety, geology or recruiting the right people to find the hydrocarbons.

Many people in the industry are unaware of why finding oil and gas is so difficult, so costly and very uncertain. This Micro VILT will explain the components of a petroleum system, and why these different components vary. It will examine the controls on the quality of the elements, determine what we think is in the subsurface, and how it may be modelled.

The Micro VILT will then look at how we can assess these different components, and what types of hydrocarbons there may be. The trainer will then demonstrate an online calculation of the amount of hydrocarbons in place for a simulated field, using the industry standard formulae. This will be followed by a discussion on the economic value of different types of hydrocarbons.

Great instruction. Great course. I would recommend this course to anyone in BSEE who is not a geoscientist.
