About this Training Course
How can production be increased by 10-20%? How can reserves be increased? How can costs be reduced? How can performance be optimised to minimize GHG emissions? This advanced WRFM course is an interactive course for Upstream oil and gas companies who want to maximise the value of their assets.
The WRFM course will provide, from reservoir to sales point, industry best practices and Lean principles for teams to understand that, when followed, will deliver WRFM opportunities that maximise an asset value, typically against marginal additional costs or resources. The course will cover all key activities and resources required for performing WRFM successfully and will show how to close the gap to the Asset’s potential. The course is highly interactive with several exercises that can be tailored to the asset challenges.
The course is designed to teach the WRFM workflow to ensure students fully understand oil field practices following the plan-do-review loop and simple lean management principles. The biggest performance impact is realised by getting staff working together hence it is key that all key asset practitioners attend this course together to enable integration, achieve shared understanding of key issues and get the most out of the course.
The course typically will be given with three highly experienced instructors to cover surface, subsurface and Business Improvement. This balance between technical and process improvements is a proven recipe for creating value with ever-reducing cycle times.
At the end of the course, participants will understand how to apply industry best practices in WRFM to their assets and identify areas for improvement. In addition, they will learn about lean principles and how to apply it in the WRFM process. Based on the outcome of the WRFM course and the insight that lectures will get while giving the course, the option for post-course consultancy and a second-tier course with the necessary technical content to improve performance of any weak part in the process is also available.
The WRFM course is best suited for experienced personnel across various disciplines and asset leaders who need help integrating different functions and disciplines. It can also be tailored to less experienced staff with greater emphasis on addressing basic technical and process principles.

Your expert course instructor brings over 35 years of international experience in the Upstream Oil and Gas industry, with deep expertise in production operations, asset management, performance management, stakeholder engagement, and operational excellence. A Master in Petroleum Engineering, he has led transformative initiatives in diverse environments, applying lean management, continuous improvement, and value assurance practices to drive performance across global operations. His areas of specialization also include well, reservoir and facilities management (WRFM), risk management, training and coaching, personal and process safety, multidisciplinary integration, and digitalisation.
He is a seasoned leader with a learner mindset, recently enhancing his credentials with the Executive Programme in Energy Transition in Business and Leadership. Known for fostering a trust-based and collaborative work culture, he has successfully advised senior leadership and coached cross-functional teams to achieve sustainable business outcomes in complex operational settings.
His previous engagements include:
Operational Excellence Leadership in Qatar (2019–2023) – Led production operations in the Dukhan Asset for Qatar Energy, achieving production targets above business plan (300 boepd). Advised and coached the Qatari management team in operational excellence, maintenance transformation, and continuous improvement, influencing a performance-driven culture and strengthening reliability, HSE, and asset integrity practices.
Global Value Assurance for Capital Projects (2012–2019) – Served as Value Assurance Manager at Shell International, overseeing a global capital projects portfolio exceeding $500 million. Facilitated investment appraisal and multi-disciplinary integration, led post-investment reviews to drive systemic improvements, and supported senior leadership with clear, data-driven decision-making insights.
WRFM Excellence Across Shell Assets (2007–2012) – As WRFM Manager, launched and scaled a production excellence initiative resulting in a ~200 kb/d production increase across Shell’s upstream assets. Delivered WRFM training globally and implemented digital toolkits to enhance efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
