Hydrogen, Ammonia, Methanol Training Courses > Hydrogen Network Optimisation - From Production to Industrial Integration

About this Classroom Training

As the global energy landscape shifts towards sustainability, the production of clean hydrogen is paramount. Pivotable technologies require hydrogen, including the synthesis of ammonia and methanol. Currently, most hydrogen is manufactured via steam/methane reforming, a process that consumes significant energy and co-produces large amounts of CO2. Therefore, recovering, purifying, and reusing hydrogen presents a win-win scenario.

Hydrogen network optimisation, at a relatively low cost, enables producers to meet stringent environmental regulations while increasing profitability and decreasing carbon emissions. Participants will learn a methodology for optimising hydrogen use in various industrial settings. Participants will able to grasp overviews of major hydrogen producers, which can include catalytic reformers, steam/methane reformers, electrolysers, partial oxidation plants, olefin plants, gas-to-liquid plants, FCC units, and cokers.

Offsite hydrogen can be sourced from electrolysis of water, ammonia cracking, pyrolysis, and industrial gas suppliers. Additionally, participants will receive an overview of hydrogen purifiers such as amine treaters, lean-oil absorbers, PSA units, cryogenic units, and semi-permeable membranes, with emphasis on the impacts of hydrogen purity on downstream hydrogen consumers.

Through case studies, participants will examine examples of hydrogen network analysis, simulation, optimisation, and integration. The participants will explore the linkages between hydrogen networks and ammonia and methanol plants, as well as over-the-fence hydrogen supply options. Participants will receive guidance on to adopt such strategies within their own organisations.

This course will be delivered face-to-face over 3-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 19.50 hours in total, 19.50 CPD points. This course can also be delivered through Virtual Inspector Led Training.

By the end of this 3 days training course, participants will:

  • Compare different hydrogen production methods and their key characteristics.
  • Determine hydrogen storage options, including pressurised tanks, underground storage, ammonia, and metal hydrides.
  • Intergrate hydrogen networks with with ammonia and methanol plants, as well as over-the-fence hydrogen supply options.
  • Analysis the hydrogen networks using techniques like hydrogen pinch analysis, multi-component modeling, and advanced process control strategies.
  • Identify and implement the hydrogen network optimisation projects to improve efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.

Thank you very much for the 4-day hydrocracking course that you presented to Zeeland Refinery last November. The course was attended by employees from Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance Departments. We found the course is very interesting. It was comprehensive and practical, covering all of the refineries and with sessions on troubleshooting, renewables, and safety. We especially enjoyed the Slido sessions, which allowed for interaction and added interest.

In April 2021, I had a pleasure to take part in a training course conducted by your expert instructor for LOTOS. It was three-day journey through interesting themes, like hydrocracking feeds and products, chemistry and kinetics, catalysis and catalysts, safety, reactor internals, renewable feedstocks. The trainer has a huge knowledge and experience, and he can share it easily with the audiences. The training was very popular in my organisation and I received many positive opinions about it. I would highly recommend this training course.
