About this Training

This online, on-demand training program covers the main engineering criteria, documentation, and practical activities involved in plant layout development and piping arrangement in industrial plants.

The course is delivered 100% online and on-demand, allowing participants to study at their own pace. Instructor support will be provided through the consultation forum on the Virtual Campus. Participants will have one year of access to the platform to complete the course.

Course Outline

This module covers the main technical aspects required to develop plant layout and piping arrangement activities in industrial projects, including equipment placement, pipe routing, drawing interpretation, arrangement criteria, and practical design considerations.

Participants will learn how to interpret process documentation, define equipment and piping layouts, apply spacing and access requirements, prepare piping isometrics, and understand the use of 3D modelling tools in the development of piping systems.

The course also includes practical case studies, assimilation tests, design exercises, technical symbols, drafting criteria, and recommendations based on real industrial plant projects.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret process diagrams such as PFD, P&ID, and BFD in industrial projects
  • Apply piping design criteria based on technical documentation and project requirements
  • Organize equipment layout and placement within industrial plants
  • Define pipe routing arrangements considering interferences, access, operation, and safety
  • Use technical symbols in layout drawings and piping diagrams
  • Evaluate minimum spacing and operating conditions for specific equipment
  • Develop piping isometric drawings according to drafting and dimensioning rules
  • Understand the use of 3D modelling tools for piping systems
  • Identify practical recommendations for piping connected to vessels, pumps, and compressors
  • Apply technical criteria through practical exercises, case studies, and assimilation tests

This course is intended for:

  • Graduates or soon-to-be graduates entering piping design and plant layout activities
  • Designers involved in industrial plant arrangements and piping systems
  • Freelancers supporting engineering, drafting, or layout development work
  • Technicians involved in manufacturing, maintenance, safety, quality, or plant operations
  • Engineers involved in the calculation, design, selection, manufacturing, safety, quality, and maintenance of systems and equipment in industrial processes

Prerequisite

Previous knowledge of plant layout or piping arrangement is not required to attend this course.

  • Intermediate

The course follows a self-paced, hands-on methodology focused on practical application of plant layout and piping arrangement criteria. The learning approach combines technical explanations, study material, design exercises, case studies, assimilation tests, drawing interpretation, drafting activities, and instructor support through the Virtual Campus consultation forum.
