About this Training Course

This 5-day CCS training programme combines a high-level introduction to CO₂ storage fundamentals with exclusive technical visits to Norway's leading carbon capture, transport and storage (CCS) facilities. Designed for government representatives, regulators, policy makers, project sponsors and industry professionals, the programme provides participants with a practical understanding of CO₂ storage site feasibility, assurance requirements and CCS value chain implementation.

The programme begins with a classroom-based introduction to the fundamentals of geological CO₂ storage, including storage site and storage complex concepts, saline aquifers and depleted hydrocarbon fields, storage feasibility elements, containment considerations, injectivity, capacity, monitoring and remediation, as well as key HSSE and regulatory considerations. Participants will also gain an understanding of the role of ISO 27914 as a high-level reference for storage assurance and certification.

To complement the classroom learning, participants will engage with Norwegian CCS stakeholders and gain first-hand exposure to operational CCS projects through site visits to Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM), Northern Lights, BIR CCS and Heidelberg Materials Brevik. These visits provide valuable insight into industrial carbon capture technologies, CO₂ transport infrastructure, operational controls, monitoring systems, risk management practices and the interfaces that connect capture, transport and permanent geological storage.

The programme concludes with a facilitated integration session that brings together lessons from the classroom and site visits. Participants will explore how technical feasibility, operational assurance, regulatory oversight and stakeholder considerations contribute to successful CCS project development and long-term storage integrity, while identifying key insights applicable to future CCS deployment initiatives.
