Agrivoltaics - also known as Agri-PV is rapidly gaining attention as a new solution for the design of solar parks. It combines solar energy generation and agriculture practices on the same plot of land. This can have several advantages such as the use of renewable energy can be utilise in the farm management for enhancing operational efficiency, the system can lead to decreased water usage for irrigation, as the shade from solar panels helps retain the soil moisture and irrigation systems can be powered by the solar energy generated on-site and further reducing reliance on external energy sources.
Furthermore, this dual-use approach maximises land efficiency by combining food production and energy generation that address land-use conflicts, solar panels can shield crops from extreme weather conditions by providing a protective barrier, and farmers can diversify their income streams by generating electricity alongside traditional agricultural products, which can be particularly beneficial in fluctuating markets. However, the presence of agrivoltaics construction can have an influence on crop growth or quality, if it is not designed effectively. Likewise, the design of agrivoltaics systems should be tailored to accommodate the requirements of agricultural machinery and crop demands.
This 2-day course offers a comprehensive understanding of the field of agrivoltaics and equips participants with the knowledge to assess the feasibility, design, implementation and operation of Agri-PV systems. The curriculum will covers all major aspects from constructions, legislation, impact on crops and agricultural practices to financial modelling.
The course provides theoretical grounding and practical guidelines tailored to professionals evaluating or preparing agrivoltaics projects. Participants will gain invaluable insights and tools to determine if agrivoltaics can be a viable energy alternative for their organisations. Engaging activities and design exercises allow participants to apply the concepts to planned projects in their home countries. Participants will leave equipped to evaluate sites and methods to set up the design for a selected site, navigate permitting, and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of agrivoltaics system.
This course will be delivered face-to-face over 2 days, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 13 hours in total, 13 CPD points. Maximum number of participants: 20
