About this Training Course
This advanced course is designed for professionals in the upstream oil and gas, energy storage, and CCUS sectors who are involved in well construction, maintenance, and abandonment operations. The program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of well cementing, integrity management, and plug and abandonment (P&A) processes through a series of interconnected modules, case studies, and practical exercises.
The course begins with an in-depth exploration of cement as a material and of its failure modes, covering both process quality (i.e., mixing and pumping) and product quality (i.e., integrity through the well’s life cycle). After an introduction to creeping formations, cement’s silent helpers, we will have an advanced overview of logging techniques, covering both current and future methodologies. Participants will learn to interpret logs qualitatively and quantitatively, gaining insights into cement quality and potential defects. This module includes hands-on examples to reinforce theoretical concepts.
Building on this foundation, the course progresses to address the critical issue of repairing annular isolation. Through case studies and interactive discussions, attendees will explore various troubleshooting and repair techniques, including squeeze operations and innovative solutions like resin applications. The program then transitions to the crucial topic of setting cement plugs, covering design considerations, thickening time, and qualification procedures. This knowledge is immediately applied to the challenges of plug and abandonment operations, where participants will engage with real-world scenarios and current industry standards such as NORSOK D-010 and OEUK WDG.
In the final module, the course explores niche cement systems, broadening participants' understanding of specialized solutions for complex well conditions. Throughout the program, practical exercises and hands-on examples are integrated to reinforce learning and develop problem-solving skills. The course concludes with a roundtable discussion, providing an opportunity for participants to consolidate their learning, share experiences, and discuss emerging trends and challenges in well cementing and integrity management. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications and industry best practices, this course equips participants with the advanced skills needed to excel in well cementing and integrity management in the upstream oil and gas sector.
