About this Classroom Training

The Apollo Root Cause Analysis™ methodology course is a comprehensive 2-day training designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge for effective problem analysis and investigation. This course is particularly beneficial for professionals who regularly encounter incidents or failures that could recur, including those who lead investigations and produce reports.

Participants will delve into the fundamental principles of root cause analysis, learning how to differentiate between symptoms and root causes. The course emphasises practical application, with the second day dedicated to working through real-world scenarios, allowing attendees to apply the concepts learned in a hands-on environment. Key topics include defining problems accurately, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and utilising the Apollo RCA™ methodology and RealityCharting® software to visualise and analyse data to prevent and eliminate problems from reoccurring.

By the end of the course, participants will be proficient in facilitating investigations, developing actionable solutions, and producing comprehensive reports to support their findings. This course not only enhances individual problem-solving capabilities but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement within organisations. With a focus on collaboration and effective communication, this course prepares professionals to tackle complex issues and drive meaningful change in their workplace.

This course will be delivered via classroom over 2-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per session. Course Duration: 13 hours in total, 13 CPD points; 1 CEU points.

Each topic will commence with a clearly defined intended learning outcome (LO). The learning experience will be enriched through diverse activities such as hands on practices, quizzes, and discussion. Besides supplementing the core material, participants will have access to additional resources such as a course manual, a downloadable free copy of Dean Gano’s eBook ‘Seven steps to Effective Problem Solving’ and Memory Jogger (RCA Jogger). Learning Tools: Participants are encouraged to bring their laptop to access RCPro® software. Each participant will get access to the RCPro® software for twelve (12) months duration. RC Pro® facilitates implementation of the Apollo Root Cause Analysis™ methodology and provides comprehensive investigation management features. It gives participants a standardised platform to quickly create, escalate, iterate and integrate your analysis into business processes. This software will be utilised during the hands-on activities for participants to practice.

Your expert instructor is an experienced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Trainer, and Incident Investigator with a strong background in the Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy and also Manufacturing sectors. He is a Root Cause Analysis specialist with Pro-Reliability Solutions, and is an Elected Member of the Institute of Industrial Accident Investigators (IIAI).

With a focus on improving operational performance, he is proficient in applying methodologies like 5 Whys, Fishbone, and Apollo Realitycharting to drive continuous improvement, prevent repeat failures, and enhance organisational efficiency. His core competencies include incident investigation, corrective action planning, RCA rollout, and data analysis.

His professional experience includes serving as a Lead RCA Trainer for ARMS – A Baker Hughes Company from 2017 to 2025, where he developed and delivered RCA training globally. During this time, he defined RCA activation criteria (e.g., for failures >£10K recurring breakdowns) and tracked performance measures, targeting a 70% reduction in repeat events within one year. He also led the RCA development team for the Baker Hughes Integration Project, authoring training presentations and contributing to a global e-learning program.

Additionally, he has significant experience in Health & Safety Training, having served as a Health & Safety Training Manager for ELAS Ltd, where he managed nationwide training operations and delivered over 200 training sessions annually. He consistently rates as a Top-Scoring Trainer, achieving 5/5 for RCA and H&S training worldwide for eight years.

His certifications include Apollo RCA Instructor (Oct 2017), IOSH Managing Safely and Working Safely, and NEBOSH – Introduction to Incident Investigations. He is also the author of several RCA blogs on topics such as Effective Documentation and The Secret to Reliable Human Performance.
