About this Training
This comprehensive three-day course on Corrosion and Cathodic Protection provides a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications designed to equip participants with the skills necessary for effective corrosion prevention and control. Grounded in global best practices, the course references internationally recognized standards, including the AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) standard family, ISO guidelines, API Recommended Practices, and British Standards. These standards serve as the foundation for understanding corrosion mechanisms, designing cathodic protection systems, and evaluating performance metrics.
Day 1 introduces the core concepts of corrosion science, including its electrochemical basis, phenomena, and various coating methodologies. Participants will learn about material selection and international standards like AMPP SP0169 for buried pipelines and AMPP SP0502, setting the stage for a comprehensive understanding of cathodic protection fundamentals and field measurement techniques. Day 2 emphasizes hands-on applications, focusing on sacrificial and impressed current cathodic protection systems. Key topics include system design, anode selection, and effectiveness monitoring, supplemented by practical exercises. Participants gain insight into advanced cathodic protection components like rectifiers and their role in ensuring long-term infrastructure integrity.
The final day addresses advanced topics such as stray current corrosion, the design of cathodic protection systems for complex geometries, and corrosion management in reinforced concrete. Participants also explore specialized survey techniques like Close Interval Potential Surveys (CIPS) and Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) methods. The course concludes with an examination of monitoring systems and data evaluation for real-world applications.
This course is available in both classroom training and Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) format.
