About this Training

This training program provides a practical introduction to hydrogen as an energy vector, with a focus on its role in the energy transition and the main elements of the hydrogen value chain.

The course is delivered 100% online and on-demand, allowing participants to study at their own pace. Instructor support will be provided through the consultation forum on the Virtual Campus. The campus will remain open for 1 month to give participants additional time to complete the course.

Course Outline

This module covers the main technical aspects required to understand hydrogen as a key energy carrier and its potential contribution to the energy transition.

Participants will learn how hydrogen is produced, stored, transported and used across different industrial and mobility applications, while also becoming familiar with the main technical, safety and economic challenges associated with its development.

The course also includes on-demand video lessons, practical explanations, conceptual questions and multiple-choice assimilation activities to help participants consolidate the fundamental concepts.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of hydrogen in the energy transition
  • Identify the main components of the hydrogen value chain
  • Recognise the main hydrogen production routes and associated technologies
  • Describe the basic principles of hydrogen storage and transportation
  • Differentiate between hydrogen combustion and fuel cell applications
  • Identify key hydrogen uses in industry, mobility, network balancing and transport
  • Understand the main safety considerations related to hydrogen
  • Recognise the main challenges and opportunities in the development of the hydrogen economy

This course is intended for:

  • Students interested in hydrogen technologies and the energy transition
  • Technicians involved in energy, industrial or infrastructure-related activities
  • Designers seeking an introductory understanding of the hydrogen value chain
  • Freelancers working in technical or energy-related fields
  • Engineers interested in the practical aspects of hydrogen production, storage, distribution and use

Prerequisite

Previous knowledge of hydrogen technologies is not required to attend this course. The content has been developed as an introductory module for participants who want to become familiar with the fundamental concepts and practical aspects of the hydrogen value chain.

The course follows a learn-by-doing methodology based on progressive on-demand video lessons and assimilation questions. Participants advance through the course step by step, reviewing the fundamental concepts and applying them through short conceptual activities designed to support understanding and retention.
