About this Training Course

This 5-day Advanced Carbonate Reservoir Engineering course provides participants with a deep insight into the application of reservoir engineering principles and methods in the development and production of carbonate reservoirs.

Through a blend of theoretical insights, real world case studies and exercises, participants will explore the distinctive challenges and opportunities associated with carbonate reservoirs, including heterogeneity, fluid-rock interaction, and fracture networks. They will apprehend practical considerations for the identification of reservoir drive mechanisms and well performance, and the interpretation and use of data to select and construct suitable reservoir models. Moreover, participants will be able to articulate key uncertainties when forecasting production and estimating reserves and resources in carbonate reservoirs.

The training is geared to equip subsurface engineers and related disciplines with the tools to enhance hydrocarbon recovery and optimize field performance in carbonate settings in an integrated manner.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Characterize and evaluate carbonate and fractured reservoir rock properties.
  • Analyse fluid behaviour and assess reservoir drive mechanisms using PVT and material balance data.
  • Conduct well performance analysis, plan and interpret well tests in complex carbonate settings.
  • Implement simulation techniques and upscaling methodologies, including fracture and aquifer modelling.
  • Plan and assess water flooding and EOR strategies for optimized recovery.
  • Estimate and classify reserves and resources; characterize hydrocarbon volume uncertainty in accordance with PRMS guidelines.
  • Assess and quantify key uncertainties in various phases of field development.
  • Develop forecasting scenarios to support development planning and investment decisions.
  • Articulate the value added by reservoir engineers in conjunction with other disciplines in carbonate reservoir assessment and production enhancement.

The Advanced Carbonate Reservoir Engineering course is best suited for:

  • Experienced reservoir engineers who are actively working on or transitioning to work on carbonate fields.
  • Petroleum engineers and production engineers requiring advanced technical insight into carbonate-specific reservoir challenges.
  • Geoscientists and subsurface professionals seeking a stronger grasp of subsurface engineering approaches and challenges in carbonate formations.
  • Professionals involved in field development planning, reservoir simulation, or integrated performance optimization of carbonate assets.

Participants should have foundational knowledge of reservoir engineering principles to gain most from this advanced-level course.

The course is delivered through an interactive blend of advanced theory, practical exercises, and targeted real-world case studies aligned with each session’s learning objectives. Participants are encouraged to share their own field challenges, which are incorporated into group discussions and exercises to promote collaborative, multidisciplinary learning. Course content and flow are flexibly adapted to participant backgrounds, ensuring maximum value through active engagement and shared experience.
