About this Training Course
In today’s dynamic upstream environment, exploration and business development leaders face the challenge of delivering results amid capital constraints, evolving ESG priorities, and the strategic need to align portfolios with corporate growth.
Built on over 30 years of global exploration leadership, this five-day intermediate to advanced-level course equips professionals with the tools, models, and insights to design exploration business development strategies that are both technically sound and commercially executable. Participants will explore portfolio design, opportunity screening, valuation techniques (NPV, IRR, EMV), and strategic alignment of risk and investment decisions. The course also addresses leadership, capability building, and culture, critical enablers of successful execution.
A central feature is the Capstone Team Project, where participants work on a realistic portfolio scenario throughout the week, applying key concepts and presenting a strategic roadmap on the final day.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Design and implement a fit-for-purpose exploration business development strategy
- Align opportunity portfolios with strategic goals, risk appetite, and ESG considerations
- Apply risked portfolio modelling and valuation techniques (NPV, IRR, EMV) to enhance value and manage cost
- Assess portfolio risk, asset mix, and resource efficiency to support new business capture
- Evaluate and strengthen capability, operating models, and strategic partnerships
