Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCS/CCUS) Training Courses > Industrial Decarbonisation Strategies, Policies, and Technologies Navigating towards Net Zero in Heavy Industry and Manufacturing

About this Training

Industrial decarbonisation is the process of reducing or eliminating carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from energy-intensive industries such as steel, cement, chemicals, mining, and manufacturing. These sectors are essential to modern economies but also represent some of the hardest-to-abate sources of emissions.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of how industries can transition towards net zero through technology innovation, process optimisation, material substitution, electrification, and carbon management. It also explores the enabling roles of policy, finance, regulation, and public engagement in accelerating this transition.

Through global and Southeast Asian case studies, participants will gain a practical understanding of the drivers, challenges, and opportunities in decarbonising heavy industry—helping them identify pathways to competitiveness and sustainability in a low-carbon future.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance and urgency of industrial decarbonisation across heavy industries.

  • Examine the key technological pathways for reducing industrial emissions, including process optimisation, electrification, and carbon management.

  • Assess the role of innovation, policy, regulation, and finance in supporting industrial decarbonisation.

  • Identify opportunities for collaboration between government, industry, and investors in accelerating net-zero industrial transitions.

  • Analyse global and regional case studies to extract lessons for effective implementation in their own sectors.

  • Recognise how public opinion and societal expectations shape industrial transformation and long-term policy support.

This course is designed for professionals involved in planning, managing, regulating, or financing the transition toward low-carbon and sustainable industrial operations. It is suitable for participants from both the public and private sectors who wish to better understand the strategic, technological, and policy dimensions of industrial decarbonisation.

  • Engineers, technologists, and environmental scientists working in heavy industries such as steel, cement, chemicals, mining, and manufacturing.

  • Government officials and regulators responsible for industrial policy, energy transition, or sustainability frameworks.

  • Project managers and planners overseeing industrial transformation or sustainability initiatives.

  • Finance and investment professionals evaluating or supporting low-carbon industrial projects.

  • Legal, compliance, and risk specialists involved in regulatory and sustainability governance.

  • Corporate strategy, sustainability, and ESG managers driving decarbonisation agendas within organisations.

  • Marketing and communications professionals involved in stakeholder engagement or sustainability reporting.
