About this Training
Power System Analysis is an essential component of electrical power system design. Load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination are crucial for verifying that the electrical system and its components are properly specified to perform as intended, withstand expected stresses, and be adequately protected against failures.
Effective power system protection for electrical equipment and apparatus requires a thorough understanding of phase and ground short circuit currents, fault detection, and safe clearing of compromised equipment. Proper design and coordination of electric power protection systems are vital to safety, maintenance, troubleshooting, and efficient operation of electrical systems in modern industrial facilities.
This comprehensive 4-day training course addresses all critical aspects of industrial and utility power systems, including system planning, equipment selection, specification and application, system grounding, protection schemes, and compliance with electrical code requirements.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Improve your knowledge of power system design, planning, analysis, protective device applications & relay schemes for safe and efficient operation of electrical power systems and equipment
- Minimize adverse impacts of power trips through effective protection grading and coordination
- Develop your own relay settings and thoroughly understand the philosophy of protective systems for substations, transformers, switchgears/circuit breakers, feeders, motors, generators, etc.
- Gain valuable insights through actual cases illustrating various techniques in present use and highlighting particular approaches used by experienced system designers
- Troubleshoot power system protection problems commonly faced by industry and adopt recommended solutions which have proven successful
- Understand how to apply microprocessor-based multi-function relays on protection of various power system equipment and apparatus
- Discuss the challenges on power system design and protection posed by renewable energy sources, independent power producers, micro-grids & smart grids
The course is recommended for anyone who is involved in designing, selecting, sizing, specifying, installing, testing, operating and maintaining power systems:
- Power protection engineers
- Power system design and integration
- Electrical maintenance engineers
- Automation engineers
- Electrical & instrumentation
- Instrumentation & control

Learn what past participants have said about EnergyEdge training courses
The training on HV & MV Power System Design, Protection and Coordination through energyEDGE was very informative. The content was well structured to introduce each topic at a basic level to build into great technical knowledge of HV and MV power systems. I would highly recommend this program to anyone starting in an electrical position that works on or designs HV and MV electrical systems.
