About this Training Course
The LPG shipping industry has experienced consistent growth over the past decade in terms of fleet size, vessel numbers, and transported volumes, despite challenges posed by global pandemics and geopolitical tensions. This intensive two-day course provides an in-depth exploration of the latest developments in Voyage and Time Charterparties specific to LPG tankers. Participants will learn how to move away from the conventional use of the ASBATANKVOY form and instead leverage LPG-specific Charter Party Agreements. The course also addresses the risks of using legacy oil tanker charter party forms, which often contain ambiguous and outdated clauses.
Designed exclusively for professionals in the LPG tanker sector, including shipowners, charterers, terminal operators, and brokers, this course is continuously updated to reflect the industry’s best practices and emerging trends. Regardless of whether freight rates are high or insufficient to cover a vessel’s daily operating costs, a meticulous review of Charterparty terms is essential. Proper risk allocation and mitigation are critical, particularly given the complexities of multi-party transactions, multiple parcel Bills of Lading, and the increasing number of intermediaries involved in LPG transportation.
“Each clause of a Charterparty should be carefully drafted with consideration for vessel capability, the number of contracting parties, the cargo type, and its intended purpose—while accounting for evolving factors such as sanctions, pandemics, and geopolitical uncertainties.”
Through this training course, participants will gain valuable insights from real-world case studies and hands-on experience with modern CPA forms. This will equip them to navigate the evolving challenges of LPG export, import, and transportation with greater confidence and expertise.
This course is developed with the following objectives:
- Upgrade Chartering Processes by incorporating contemporary LPG-specific Charter Party Forms.
- Enhance the interpretation and applicability of clauses in a Charterparty in the context of the available commercial proposition, evolving market forces, and economics of demand and supply.
- Edit the relevant and most appropriate type of Charterparty Form for Voyage and Time Charter and comprehend the key features of each Form in the context of its use for LPG.
- Interpret terms and conditions of a Charterparty in the context of international maritime conventions, competition, and the uncertainty of economic factors.
- Incorporate influencing attributes of current and future trends in LPG transportation and the influence of regulatory regimes and strategies of Oil & Gas Majors, Spot Traders, and Storage Terminals.
- Recognize the avenues of collaboration, contentions, conflicts, and manage disputes to avoid losses.
- Manage operations towards ensuring delivery of performance obligations and creating a Charterparty Management System (CMS) in the company to ensure profitability for each voyage and duration of the Charter.
LPG Gas traders, LPG Tanker Owners, Charterers, Brokers, Terminal Operators, and Senior Executives holding key management positions, such as Director, General Manager, Commercial Manager, Business Development Manager, Legal Counsel, Post Fixtures Manager, Fleet Manager, Marine & Technical Superintendent, and Middle Level Manager, are marked for succession planning.
