About this Classroom Training
As the energy industry advances toward decarbonisation, ammonia has emerged as a critical cargo commodity with unique transportation requirements. The growing global demand for ammonia is driven by its exceptional properties as a cost-effective hydrogen carrier, making it an essential component of the hydrogen economy and energy transition. This strategic shift in the ammonia market is reshaping global shipping patterns, with trade volumes projected to increase substantially as industries seek efficient hydrogen transportation solutions.
This 3-day course provides essential training for maritime professionals involved in ammonia cargo operations, covering the complete operational spectrum from loading and discharging procedures to sophisticated Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfers. Through hands-on exercises and case studies, and expert-led instruction, participants will gain deep insights into the technical requirements and safety protocols necessary for managing ammonia cargo.
The program emphasises practical skills development while addressing the evolving regulatory landscape governing ammonia transport operations. Special attention is given to the emerging demands of hydrogen logistics, where ammonia’s stability and transportability offer distinct advantages over other hydrogen carriers. Upon completion, participants will be equipped to contribute meaningfully to their organisation’s ammonia cargo operations, positioning themselves at the forefront of this growing market segment while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
This course will be delivered face-to-face over 3-day, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 19.50 hours in total, 19.50 CPD points. This course is also available in VILT.
By the end of this 3 days training course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the technical requirements for transporting ammonia as cargo.
- Learn about ammonia loading, discharging operations, and safety protocols.
- Gain insights into terminal and STS operations for ammonia-handling vessels.
- Examine ammonia bunkering procedures.
- Analyse case studies of ammonia cargo incidents and responses.
