About this Classroom Training
PVsyst is a software tool used extensively in the solar photovoltaic industry to simulate and estimate the energy production of PV systems. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively utilise PVsyst for bankable solar energy yield assessments and to assist in the design of both grid-connected and hybrid solar PV systems.
Throughout the course, participants will explore the technical context behind the various components and effects that influence a PV system’s performance, such as solar radiation, temperature, shading, and system aging. Participants will learn how these factors are implemented within PVsyst`s modelling capabilities.
Hands-on case studies will guide the participants through the process of conducting energy yield analyses for both grid-connected and off-grid PV systems. This includes system sizing, layout optimisation, shading analysis using 3D scene modelling, loss estimation, and configuration of inverters, modules, and other electrical components.
By the end of this training, participants will have gained the skills to estimate annual energy production with confidence, a crucial input for financial modelling. Participants will understand how to optimise system design to maximise yield, account for shading impacts, and set measurable performance guarantees based on PVsyst simulations.
This course will be delivered face-to-face over 3-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 24 hours in total, 24 CPD points.
By the end of this 3 days training course, participants will be able to:
- Estimate annual energy production from a solar photovoltaic system with confidence – as crucial input into financial model.
- Communicating the effects of shading caused by horizon or nearby obstacles such as houses or other rows of solar panels on the output of the system.
- Be able to optimise the energy yield of a photovoltaic system by changing the geometry or the electrical configuration of the system.
- Set performance guarantees based on PVsyst that are measurable.
This course has been designed for professionals working in the energy sector looking to further develop their careers to keep up to date on emerging technologies.

This course will provide comprehensive learning resources, including course materials for future reference. Each topic will commence with a clearly defined intended learning outcome (LO). The learning experience will be enriched through diverse activities such as quizzes, and assessments, ensuring engagement and understanding. Besides supplementing the core material, participants will have access to additional resources like articles, case studies, and tools. The course structure incorporates interactive elements, such as group discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, enhancing hands-on learning experiences. Q&A sessions will provide opportunities for clarifications and deeper understanding.
Participants should have a PVsyst license for one unique device. Participants are advised not to share the software. If participants do not have access to a PVsyst license, they can download a trial license, which will be valid for 30 days. Therefore, participants must ensure that they downloaded the trial version before the training course date. In addition, participants are encouraged to use Microsoft Excel – 2021 for Windows as versions pre 2019 will not work.
