About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)
As the world shifts towards sustainable energy solutions, biomethane production has become increasingly attractive due to its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy security. Furthermore, driven by the growing demand for renewable energy and supportive government incentives for green technologies, the biogas to biomethane conversion industry is experiencing a promising outlook. The conversion of biogas a mixture primarily composed of methane and carbon dioxide into biomethane involves several upgrading technologies, including pressure swing adsorption, membrane separation, and water scrubbing. These advancements not only improve the efficiency of the conversion process but also make biomethane a viable alternative to fossil fuels. Therefore, the biogas to biomethane sector is well-positioned to play a critical role in the transition towards a more sustainable and renewable energy future.
This 5 half day VILT course delves into essential aspects of the biomethane market landscape, technical plant design, substrate selection, and digestate treatment. Participants will explore the biomethane integration pathway within broader energy transition strategies aimed at achieving net-zero emissions while promoting circular economy principles. Furthermore, they will examine the economic aspects of biomethane production, including feasibility studies, cost analysis, and business case development. This will equip participants to effectively navigate the financial landscape of this renewable energy sector.
By incorporating case studies and real-world examples, this course will illustrate successful implementations and innovative strategies in biomethane utilisation. Practical applications covered in this course include digester biology, pump technology, and safety measures vital for biogas plant operations. Ultimately, participants will leave equipped with the skills necessary to design efficient biogas plants, optimise production processes, and assess market opportunities for biomethane as a sustainable energy source.
This course will be delivered via VILT over 5-day sessions, comprising of 5 hours per day, and 2 breaks of 10 minutes per day. Course Duration: 23.20 hours in total, 23.20 CPD points. This course can also be delivered through classroom in 2026.
By the end of this 5-half day VILT training course, participants will be able to:
- Analyse the current state of the biomethane market, identifying key drivers of demand, barriers to growth, and the role of biomethane in global energy transition strategies.
- Learn to design and select appropriate equipment for biogas plants, including understanding various digester types and crucial engineering parameters that optimise biomethane production.
- Gain insights into the biological processes involved in anaerobic digestion, including practical strategies for managing digester biology and troubleshooting common operational challenges.
- Equip with knowledge about safety measures and risk assessment protocols specific to biogas plants, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Develop skills to conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for biomethane projects, evaluating the economic implications of different production pathways and business models within the biomethane value chain.
